Alpha Custom Yachts has lifted the lid on its SQUALO design, a 29.6 meter semi-custom model that takes its name from the Italian word for ‘shark’.
With a wide beam of 7.6 metres and a draft of just under two metres, SQUALO is designed with the modern yacht owner in mind. Two units are currently in production, with delivery slated for 2023 and 2024.
The model’s interior and exterior styling comes from Italian design studio Roberto Curtó, and its bold profile is characterised by muscular lines and a strong silhouette with a vertical bow and a high pilothouse.
SQUALO also offers scope for customisation, with at least three different flybridge and main deck configurations to suit the needs of all owners.
The aft deck is the key focal point of the design, with a plunge pool sitting above a toy garage. It’s adjoined by an open deck area with seating and shaded dining.
There is an alternative lounge area on the deck above, where the pilothouse is connected to a generous open area that provides over 990 square metres of living space.
Accommodation can be provided for between eight to ten guests depending on the configuration chosen by the buyer. A master cabin sits on the main deck forward and there are two cabin configurations on offer on the lower deck.
The design has recently been shortlisted for two awards at the design et al awards in the Concept Under 40 Metres and the Interior Design - Yacht Concept award.

Steps and stairs are covered in teak in a similar manner to the decks.
Maneuvering Helm Station
There is a small steering/maneuvering station set to port aft, this has a set of basic instruments and controls such as to allow pilotage of the vessel into mooring places.
At port, will be a bar area with long counter top and layout according to the designs. The bar will have the following appliances below the counter top: single sink with hot and cold water, ice box, fridge, storage cabinets and a grill. (The appliances are part of the domestic appliance allowance).
By MAN Germany, there are 3 options. Option A is fitted as standard.
A) MAN rated at 735 bkW (1000 mhp) @ 2300rpm, vee 8 cylinder 4 stroke Dieselengine of 16.2 litre in displacement, turbocharged and after cooled, with common rail fuel system, counterclockwise rotation, 24volt electrical starting, 24volt 120amp alternator, certified EPA Tier 3, IMO II, EU RCD.
B) MAN rated at 882 bkW (1200 mhp) @ 2300rpm, vee 8 cylinder 4 stroke Dieselengine of 16.2 litre displacement, turbocharged and after cooled, with common rail fuel system, counterclockwise rotation, 24volt electrical starting, 24volt 120amp alternator, certified EPA Tier 3, IMO II, EU RCD.
C) MAN rated at 956 bkW (1300 mhp) @ 2300rpm, vee 8 cylinder 4 stroke Dieselengine of 16.2 litre displacement, turbocharged and after cooled, with common rail fuel system, counterclockwise rotation, 24volt electrical starting, 24volt 120amp alternator, certified EPA Tier 3, IMO II, EU RCD.
Reverse Reductions Gearboxes
Reverse, reduction gear boxes are coupled to the main engine via a torsional coupling. Reduction ratio is approximately 1:3.0.
The engines are resiliently mounted to reduce noise and vibration.
The pilothouse has a MAN engine information display showing engine data including RPM, % Load, Fuel Consumption, Oil Pressure, Coolant Temperature and other relevant data for both engines. MAN engine control panels for the engine room are available as an option.
The system is designed to meet Class and ABYC regulations and norms.
Source of Power
Principal sources of power are 208v 60 hertz three phase with neutral from generators or shore power and 24volt direct current from the service and start batteries. Domestic outlets are 120v 60 hertz. Domestic appliances and as much equipment as possible will be three phase or 208volt and also be 50 or 60 hertz.
Generators are 208v 60 hertz three phase, of about 40kW made by Kohler and supplied in manufacturers sound shields and mounted on manufacturers anti vibration mounts.
Shore power is 208v 60hertz 3phase rated up to 100 amps and comes aboard through a 20 meter length of flexible cable; there is a shore power isolation transformer. As an Option the standard 3phase 208 volt isolation transformer may be replaced with a shore power frequency converter. The frequency converter would also provide seamless transfer from and to shore power. As an Option, a cable master or similar reel system may be provided.
Remote controlled search light is provided.
Alarm and Monitoring system AMS

A zone addressable fire alarm system with smoke alarms for the complete accommodation and smoke and heat alarms for engine room and galley is arranged with the main panel in the main control station and alarms at the Alarm Monitoring system as repeater.
Power Management System
Electrical power is controlled by a simple PMS allowing the monitoring to be used to switch from generator to generator, open or close the bus bars and bring shore power on line. It also triggers alarms on the monitoring when any one of the power supplies reaches about 90% of its maximum power. It takes any power provider off line when it goes into overload.
